Young Dance Artist Project Weekend Workshop
January 19 & 20, 2013
An intensive workshop designed for young dancers who wish to investigate fun and new ideas in training, creation & performance in contemporary dance.
We engage with young people because it makes our art better, contributes to building informed cultural advocates and shares our specific language around dance skills and tools for creativity. We share our passion for asking questions about the world in which we live and encourage them to do likewise. YDAP Weekend Workshop offers:
- a safe, supportive, non-competitive and creative environment that values individual growth within a collaborative context
- a comfortable and friendly atmosphere where participants will engage with emerging dance artists and leaders in the field of contemporary dance in Toronto

- free healthy snacks during the day

Kristen Carcone is a graduate of New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida and was a recipient of two Dancemakers Training Scholarships. Earlier training took place at Cawthra Park Secondary School, Premiere Dance Inc., Perry Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp, Joffrey Ballet School and Dancemakers’ Emerging Dance Artist Project.
Kristen has performed across the country in a variety of shows and festivals in cities including Toronto, Miami and internationally, Prague. She has performed the works of world-renowned choreographers such as Robert Battle, Darshaun Singh Bhuller, Michael Trent, Daniel Lewis and Sidra Bell. She has received numerous awards including the Florida-Canada Linkage Scholarship, Outstanding Dance Graduate and the Frank Augustyn Scholarship.
Kristen Carcone is the Artistic Director and Coordinator of Dancemakers Youth Dance Artist Project and is an Event Director and faculty member for FRESH Dance Intensive. Kristen teaches and choreographs for numerous programs across Canada.

Colleen Snell trained at Toronto’s Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre (CCDT) as a company member and at Ladmmi in Montreal, where she became fully bilingual. In 2011 Colleen completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Dance Studies with Distinction and Masters thesis at the London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) in England. Her written work recently appeared in the Dance Current’s online publication. Colleen has worked with artists such as Irene Dowd, Risa Steinberg, Tedd Robinson, Ginette Laurin, Sasha Ivanoshko, and she was a guest artist at Dancemakers for the FastTrack series in 2007. Colleen is fascinated by the written word, and hopes to pursue trans-disciplinary practice-as-research as well as performance. She is currently fifth kyu in Aikido and has been teaching with YDAP since 2010.
