DETAILS:
EDAP1 - May 9-13 Michael Trent and Jacob Zimmer with Kelly Keenan
These days, many dance and theatre artists are doing some version of collaborative creation - creating work out of improvisation and with the investment and input from performers.
Every process can be different and there is little training for being a performer in such work. What are some of the skills, experiences and values that performers can bring to the studio?
Dancemakers Artistic Director Michael Trent and dramartuge and Small Wooden Shoe director Jacob Zimmer lead a five-day workshop
for emerging performers in composition, led-colloboration and creation.
Strategies drawn from Trent and Zimmer's contemporary dance and theatre practices - including tactics and training from the Viewpoints, Anne Bogart, Jonathon Burrows and others.
Block 1 $75
10-11:30 Morning Class - Axis Syllabus with Kelly Keenan
Falling Matters. Considering falling as the basic premise in locomotion, these classes will propose logical and complex patterns to generate, harness and recycle energy. Dynamic floor and standing material will be offered drawing attention to the acquisition of biomechanical principles ranging from reception and propulsion, chronology of supports, weight distribution, rhythm and coordination, breath and so on.
Block 2 $325
12:00 - 1:30 Strategies in Creation
Viewpoints inspired improvisation/creation strategies. The Viewpoints is a vocabulary for improvisation that grew out of postmodern dance. First articulated by Mary Overlie and then expanded by Anne Bogart, the Viewpoints develop group awareness, articulate choices and bold visions.
2:30-5:30 Creation Work - Working as performer/collaborators in a creation process led by Trent and Zimmer that will result in a short showing on the Friday afternoon.
$350 for the week (save $50)

EDAP2 - May 16-20
Ame Henderson/Public Recordings
Ame Henderson and some of her closest collaborators invite participants to join a collaborative creation process, sharing composition and conceptual strategies and using these to create performance material and relational situations between participants.
BLOCK 1: Warm-up
10:00-11:30 $75
An eclectic range of training, including Open Source Forms, Body Mind Centering, Mind Body/Muscle Bones, releasing techniques and Material for the Spine, will inform our practice: you'll be encouraged to find your own way to work and evolve the material to prepare your body for the day. Our aim is to find ways to become more efficient, grounded, released and activated. By dropping deep into the body and awakening the back and the core, this class encourages its participants towards states of connectedness and deep listening.
BLOCK 2: Crossing the Line
12:00-1:30 $125
The company will introduce the practice of crossing the line, a collectively authored emerging group composition technique. We will explore the practice as a method for training perception, building collaborative relationships, and developing critical articulations of ourselves as performers.
BLOCK 3: Master classes with company members
2:30-5:30 $200
– Text: voice and invention with Katie Ewald
– Integrated and collaborative design practices with
Ame Henderson and Trevor Schwellnus
– Practice remix: talking, writing, moving
Ame Henderson, Brendan Jensen and Bee Pallomina
Critical approaches to composition and dramaturgy through direct studio facilitation, conversation and debate. Please bring personal work at some stage of development and be prepared to offer this material in a group setting. Bring a notebook!
